Historic Christ Reformed Church, Shepherdstown, will observe the Feast of the Epiphany on Friday, Jan. 6, with a 6 p.m. high tea (supper) followed by candlelight Vespers at 7 p.m. The Feast of the Epiphany, known as “Three Kings Day” in many cultures, is one of the major festivals of the Christian calendar. It celebrates the visit of the Magi to the Christ child. Always falling on Jan. 6, many associate the Feast of the Epiphany as the official end of the Christmas season since it occurs immediately following the twelve days of Christmas. The largely musical service of Vespers will feature internationally acclaimed organist Dorothy Papadakos who served at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City, for 13 years. Papadakos holds a master’s degree in classical organ performance from the Julliard School which she combines with her background as a jazz musician to produce stunning improvisations in support of liturgical worship. Both the meal and the service are free of charge though a free will offering will be accepted. Christ Church is located at 304 East German St. in Shepherdstown.
