SU athletics honors breast cancer awareness

This weekend the Shepherd University volleyball and men's and women's soccer teams will be deviating from the regular school colors to pink to assist in raising awareness of breast cancer and assisting in research funding to combat the disease.

On Friday and Saturday the volleyball team will be wearing pink jerseys and

playing with pink volleyballs. The team will also be selling $5 raffle tickets towards Pink Longaberger baskets filled with prizes. Persons having a raffle ticket will get free admission into the matches. At the end of matches the raffles will be called.

The women face West Virginia State at 7 p.m. on Friday and University of

Charleston at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Butcher Center.

The men's and women's soccer teams will be wearing pink jerseys and playing with pink soccer balls in the doubleheader versus Seton Hill University on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Shepherd Soccer Field. The match will be an emotional one for head coach Jonathan Thayil who has a close family member currently undergoing

treatment for breast cancer.

The volleyball team sits at 11-10 overall 4-2 in the WVIAC good for fourth place going into the weekend. The men's soccer team is 5-7-1 overall, 2-3 (6 points) in the WVIAC for a seventh place mark. Seton Hill's men sit in sixth. The women's soccer team is 6-5-1 overall and 3-1-1 (10 points) in the WVIAC for a tie for third place. Seton Hill's women sit one point back with nine.
