Two special musical concert offerings will be held at Harmony Healing Arts Center on Friday evening, May 18, from 7:308:30 p.m. and Saturday morning, May 19, from 11 a.m.12:30 p.m.
Friday evening, Laura First and her Gopi Band will present an evening of Kirtan-one of the world's oldest sacred music traditions. Kirtan is a form of devotional chanting whose roots go back over 500 years to India. It is a form of Bhakti Yoga (yoga of devotion) and has the power to open the heart. Musical instruments and rhythmic drumming accompany the singing and the audience is encouraged to participate by chanting, clapping and dancing.
Donations will be gratefully accepted at the Kirtan and given to a tax-deductible health-care fund for Makana Ashelman, who has Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease. Makana, a former Shepherdstown resident, is a yogi, TM mediator, mentor and close friend to many in the Shepherdstown area.
On Saturday morning, Joe Gentile, “the Didgeridoo Medicine Man,” will fill the yoga studio
with the deep, droning sounds of the didgeridoo—one of the world’s oldest wind instruments, dating back thousands of years.
