"Dream Big" This Summer at the Shepherdstown Library

Tuesday, June 19 at 10:30 a.m. at the SES gym, Jerry Schneider will present "The Wonderful World of Bats!" which will include a tee shirt craft. For ages six through 12. Wednesday, June 27 at 10:30 a.m. at the Shepherdstown Community Club's War Memorial Building (WMB): Ages two through twelve are invited to make a fairy wand and a bit of magic, and join in a circle dance with Diana Gorham. Tuesday, July 10 at the War Memorial Building (WMB) at 10:30 a.m., there will be a magician in a show with lots of audience participation and comedy (maximum of 80 children, ages 3 through twelve). Wednesday, July 25 at 10:30 a.m. at the War Memorial Building (WMB), storytellers from the Rainbow Company will present "Jack and the Beanstalk." They will bring costumes for children from the audience who volunteer to perform in the play. For ages two through 12. Wednesday, August 1 at the War Memorial Building (WMB) at 10:30 a.m., ages two through twelve are invited to a performance of "Sleeping Beauty" presented by Nancy Jenks and her ballet company.

Come to the Clarion Fitness Center in Shepherdstown for SALGA YO, a new class with Jeanne Fisher which incorporates the gentle stretching of yoga before and after 30 minutes of Salsa and other Latin-based dance cardio will be held at the Clarion Fitness Center on Wednesdays at 9:10 a.m. Call for more information at 304-870-7011.

The Shepherdstown Museum, at the corner of German and Princess streets, is open on weekends from April through October and during Christmas in Shepherdstown. Hours are: Saturdays, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sundays, 1 p.m.-4 p.m. The museum tells the history of Shepherdstown and of the Entler Hotel, in which it is located. Community in the Park - Viola Devonshire Commemorative Park: Everyone is welcome to attend the "Community in the Park" event from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Viola Devonshire Commemorative Park on East German Street, near Christ Reform Church. Learn the history of the park, play games, check out the scenery, relax, meet friends, and enjoy refreshments! For additional information, contact Cheryl at 304-876-2277. 11th Annual Farm Day self-guided tour taking place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Visit Bloomery Plantation/Distillyer at 16357 Charles Town Road; Charles Town Farmers Market in the 100 Block of South Samuel Street in downtown Charles Town; Ridgefield Farm and Orchard at 414 Kidwiler Road, and Coleswood Farm, 3330 Old Leetown Pike, Ranson to learn about all aspects of farm life in the county.

Ranson Festival and Car Show takes place at the Ranson Civic Center 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Vendors, games, entertainment and more.

The Shepeherdstown Library Board is seeking input about library services to be offered at the current location. Library patrons and residents of Greater Shepherdstown are encouraged to attend a meeting on Tuesday, June 19, at 7 p.m. at the Library, to discuss the many possibilities.If you are interested in becoming involved in the Market House committee, or have questions, please contact Libby Sturm at 304-608-2009 or libbysturm@comcast.net.

Crystal Bowl Concerts at 12 p.m. Ann Craig performs an extraordinary "sound meditation" using seven quartz crystal bowls that fill the Harmony studio with an energetic yet peaceful vibration that soothes and aligns mind, body and soul. Participants can sit in chairs or lie on mats. Donations gratefully accepted.

Jefferson County Relay for Life will be held at Charles Town Middle School. It is not too late to join a team or register for the relay. Festivities begin at 7 p.m. and continue throughout the night.

June 30

Shepherdstown Streetfest will be held from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. The festival is held on the 2 blocks of German Street on either side of the town's main intersection at King Street. In addition to the artists and vendors who will be in town specifically to display their wares at Street Fest, the wonderful shops along German and Princess streets will be open for your enjoyment. In 2012, we will be donating to the WV Eastern Panhandle Free Clinic and making a special gift to Shepherdstown for its 250th birthday.

Jefferson County's Independence Day celebration will be held at Sam Michael's Park. Gates open at 5 p.m. Live entertainment features Joe Ham, Jennifer Maghan and Merlin's Beard. Food vendors available or bring a picnic to enjoy the evening. Fireworks display presented by Digital Lightning, Inc. will occur at approximately 9:40 p.m. There is no cost for this event; however donation barrels will be set up to help ensure the event continues in the future.
