"Dream Big" This Summer at the Shepherdstown Library

Tuesday, July 10 at the War Memorial Building (WMB) at 10:30 a.m., there will be a magician in a show with lots of audience participation and comedy (maximum of 80 children, ages 3 through twelve). Wednesday, July 25 at 10:30 a.m. at the War Memorial Building (WMB), storytellers from the Rainbow Company will present "Jack and the Beanstalk." They will bring costumes for children from the audience who volunteer to perform in the play. For ages two through 12. Wednesday, August 1 at the War Memorial Building (WMB) at 10:30 a.m., ages two through twelve are invited to a performance of "Sleeping Beauty" presented by Nancy Jenks and her ballet company.

Children are encouraged to pick up a reading log in the Library's Children's Department, borrow library books, and earn prizes for reading (or being read to). Prizes include two movie passes, a swimming pass, a free bowling game, gift certificates to Four Seasons Books and One Two Kangaroo, and a treat from the Sweet Shop. The Library requests donations of gently used DVDs for adults and children. Either foreign or domestic films would be appreciated. Please drop off your donations at 100 East German Street.

The Library Board is seeking input about library services to be offered at our present location when it becomes a downtown annex to the new library. If you are interested in becoming involved in this Market House committee, or have questions, please contact Libby Sturm at (304) 608-2009 or libbysturm@comcast.net.

Another committee is forming to study safety along Route 480 at Lowe Drive (the Clarion Hotel) which may become the entrance driveway to the new library. To join, please email Jeffrey Gustafson at gustafsonjm@gmail.com.

Come to the Clarion Fitness Center in Shepherdstown for SALGA YO, a new class with Jeanne Fisher which incorporates the gentle stretching of yoga before and after 30 minutes of Salsa and other Latin-based dance cardio will be held at the Clarion Fitness Center on Wednesdays at 9:10 a.m. Call for more information at 304-870-7011.

The Shepherdstown Museum, at the corner of German and Princess streets, is open on weekends from April through October and during Christmas in Shepherdstown. Hours are: Saturdays, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sundays, 1 p.m.-4 p.m. The museum tells the history of Shepherdstown and of the Entler Hotel, in which it is located. Come hear an unusual concert featuring the plucked dulcimer of Mexico, the salterio, featuring a group of 18 talented players from Queretaro, Mexico at 8 p.m. at the Shepherdstown Presbyterian Church, on the corner of King and Washington Streets in Shepherdstown, WV. July 13

6-7:30 p.m.: The Sacred Rings of Dr. Norm Shealy

Acupuncturist Michelle DeStefano will provide an overview of the self-healing techniques of Dr. Norm Shealy, one of the world's leading experts in pain management. In early June, Dr. Shealy presented a weekend workshop at Shepherd University as part of the annual Mid-Atlantic Region Retreat of the Association for Research and Enlightenment (ARE).

During the Harmony workshop, Michelle will review each of the five rings so participants can have a more thorough understanding of the acupuncture points and how even self-massage on these points can promote healing of specific and/or chronic conditions. This will be an interactive workshop, and there will be time for questions and answers about Dr. Shealy's Sacred Rings. The workshop is free and open to all. Donations will be gratefully accepted. Handouts will be provided.

Preview works by craftspersons who show their studios during the November Over the Mountain Tour. A preview show begins today and runs through July 15 at the War Memorial Building.

July 16

The Charles Town Library will sponsor a "Make and Take" earring class presented by Carmen Creamer of Carmen's Beads and Bling. Hours will be from 2-3 p.m. Participants will have the opportunity to create their own pair of earrings to keep.

Please sign up in advance at either the library or at Carmen's Beads and Bling, which is located at 103 North Lawrence Street in Charles Town. Space is limited.
