K. Stephen Morris Elected Chairman of the West Virginia Bankers Association

Charleston, WV. – K. Stephen Morris, president and CEO, Jefferson Security Bank, Shepherdstown, has been elected Chairman of the Board of the West Virginia Bankers Association (WVBA) for the 2012-2013 term.

Morris has played an active role in the banking industry. He has served two years as a member of the WVBA Executive Committee and also served on the WVBA Board of Directors since 2007 and the Legislative/Government Relations Committee since 2010. Additionally, Morris has served on the association’s for-profit subsidiary for two years during which he was chairman from 2011-12. He is also active with the American Bankers Association and currently serves on its Membership Committee.

“Steve has been an invaluable part of our executive team at the Association,” said Joe Ellison, president of the WV Bankers Association. “He has been a leader in the banking industry through his service to our Association.”

Morris, a Vietnam veteran and native of St. Albans, W.Va., began his banking career as a regulator with the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) in 1973 and joined Charleston National Bank in 1978. Since 1985, he has served as president and CEO of New River Bank and Trust, Oak Hill, W.Va.; Bank of Danville, Danville, W.Va.; Peoples Bank of Charles Town; and Jefferson Security Bank, Shepherdstown.

He has been widely active within his communities, serving as a president and/or board member of numerous organizations such as the Fayette County Chamber of Commerce; WV Community College; Jefferson County United Way, Jefferson County Red Cross, Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce; the Jefferson County Development Authority; and Caregivers of the Eastern Panhandle.

Morris and his wife, Kathy have lived in Charles Town, for the past 21 years.

The West Virginia Bankers Association is widely recognized as one of the state’s leading trade associations. The Association represents the banking industry in matters of public communications, governmental affairs and by providing an extensive array of educational seminars for its members.
