Conversation planned with artists

September 21, 2012
Shepherdstown Chronicle

Shepherdstown 250 and the Arts and Humanities Alliance of Jefferson County (AHA!) will be hosting an event on Saturday, Oct. 13 to highlight the work of local artists and authors. The Journey From Inspiration to Publication: A Conversation with Shepherdstown Artists will include a panel discussion with photographer Hali Taylor, architectural historian John Allen, Jr., historian Jim Price and poet Ed Zahniser. All four have recently completed or are about to complete a book, each one published in a unique manner. The panelists will discuss questions such as, "What was your vision for the book? Did you collaborate with anyone or any group? What was the process you used in deciding what to include in the book? Do you have a new project for the near future?"

Monica Lockett, president of the Shepherdstown Rotary Club and administrator of Canterbury Center, will moderate the discussion. The event will be held at Reynolds Hall at 7:30 p.m., followed by a reception to meet the authors and have books signed at McMurran Hall. A range of desserts, including homemade cookies, will be served.

Meredith Wait, chair of the Shepherdstown 250 Committee, stated, "It's been a thrilling year of celebration for Shepherdstown 250. We're particularly pleased to present this conversation with our own wonderful local artists. Their creativity has long been enjoyed by our community. How they have developed their work and have achieved publication will be of great interest. We expect a lively evening."

This event is free and open to the public. While there will be time for questions from audience members, people are encouraged to submit questions in advance to the Shepherdstown 250 Facebook page for the moderator consider.
