Benefit horse show planned for Columbus Day

October 5, 2012
Shepherdstown Chronicle

A horse show to benefit the Charles Town Race Track Chaplaincy will be held on Monday, Oct. 8 at Sulphur Springs Stables, Inwood. This seventh annual horse show is for English- and Western-style riders and has numerous junior and senior classes in hunter, leadline and pleasure divisions.

An indoor arena at the Orsini family's stable at 3416 Sulphur Springs Road will be the venue and the show will be held rain or shine with the first event at 10 a.m. The event is open to the public with no charge to spectators. Refreshments and lunch will be available during the day.

The primary focus of the Charles Town Race Track Chaplaincy is to serve those who are involved in the horse racing industry in the Eastern Panhandle. The non-denominational ministry provides spiritual and pastoral counseling to workers (trainers, grooms, jockeys and others) and their families in the stables and "back stretch" of the Charles Town Race Track. Supported by donations, the Chaplaincy provides a daily presence of staff and Chaplain on the shed rows, in the jockeys' room and other work places, in addition to worship services. The Charles Town Chaplaincy is the local arm of the national organization, Race Track Chaplaincy of America.

The annual horse show is open to any horse-owner or rider who wishes to participate. There is an entry fee of $7 per class. Volunteers to assist with show ring set-up during the event are needed. Registration and other information is available at 304-725-4028.
