Community Club Christmas Bazaar returns

By Staff | Nov 23, 2012

The Shepherdstown Community Club will celebrate the holidays with its annual Christmas Bazaar.

Kicking off on Black Friday, Nov. 23, and running each weekend in December until Christmas, this year’s bazaar will feature an array of handmade crafts including, pottery, fused glass, woodcrafts, jewelry, fine art, clothing, seasonal decor and home furnishings and specialty foods.

According to Kristian McIntyre, co-coordinator of the bazaar, this year’s event will feature both new and returning local or regional artisans who specialize in crafting unique handmade goods.

McIntyre said 13 vendors will rotate in and out throughout the month.

“There will be something for everyone,” she said.

McIntyre, owner of Creative Art and Soul, an engraved stone glass products business, described the bazaar as one of a few opportunities where working artisans get to bring their wares straight to their customers, allowing for a more personal shopping experience.

“Buyers can come in and actually talk to the artists rather than going to a big-box store and buying a Snuggie,” she said.

“There’s nothing that fulfills me more than when somebody finds something that really speaks to them,” she went on to say.

McIntyre said the bazaar is also an opportunity to foster a sense of community that she thinks is inherent of Shepherdstown and the Christmas season.

“We want this to benefit the community,” she said.

McIntyre explained that the Community Club’s Bazaar will coincide with the Shepherdstown’s Holiday Marketplace, being held at the Entler Hotel.

The Holiday Marketplace will feature wreaths, candles, photography, baked goods, among other handmade goods.

McIntyre said she encourages customers to visit both venues, as each is working in support of the community of artisans who make up Shepherdstown.

“This community really sponsors the arts,” she said.

Fees collected from participating vendors go directly to the Shepherdstown Community Club and sales made will benefit each artist.

The Shepherdstown Community Club supports civic events and cultural and social activities, as well as public facilities, such as the War Memorial Building and Morgan’s Grove Park.

The bazaar will be open Friday, Nov. 23 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. ; Saturday, Nov. 24, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; and Sunday, Nov. 25, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. It will open again Saturday, Dec, 1, 8, 15 and 22, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. It will also be open Sunday, Dec 2, 9, 16 and 23 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Admissions is free.
