Taylor to exhibit at AHA Fire Hall Gallery

December 14, 2012
Shepherdstown Chronicle

"A Photographic Impression of Jefferson County": An invitation to come and see what Jefferson County looked like in the late 1970s and early 1980s will be exhibited at the AHA! Fire Hall Gallery, 108 North George St., Charles Town from Jan. 5-26.

The exhibit features the photography of Hali Taylor.

Taylor came to Jefferson County from California in 1977, with her love of photography already fully formed. Entranced by the differences she found in people, landscapes and architecture and working exclusively in black and white, she began to photograph her new home of Shepherdstown. She displayed the pictures in the earliest annual Arts and Humanities Alliance of Jefferson County (AHA!) art shows aptly called "Dog Days" since they were held in August.

As a result of that exposure, Taylor received a grant in 1985 from the People's Bank of Charles Town to photograph the entire county. That yearlong project culminated in a collection of 71 images that were displayed at the Entler Hotel and then donated to the Jefferson County Museum. A number of those images will be on display at the AHA! Fire Hall Gallery. The gallery will be open Wednesday through Sunday 10 a.m.to 5 p.m., with the opening reception to be held on Saturday, Jan. 5, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
