Obituary-Cauvel

Howard L. Cauvel, IV, 40, of Shepherdstown, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012, at home while under the excellent care of Hospice of the Eastern Panhandle.

Born Feb. 16, 1972 in Gainesville, Fla., he was the son of JoAnn Fromer Cauvel, of DeLand, Fla., and the late Howard Lyman Cauvel, III.

Howard was very proud of his work in support of the U.S. Armed Forces supporting both the U.S. Marine Corps and the U.S. Army during his career. At the time of his passing he was employed as a Senior Oracle Database Administrator with GDIT, supporting the U.S. Coast Guard Operations Systems Center in Kearneysville.

Mr. Cauvel was a graduate of Wake Forest University with a degree in political science and history and was an avid supporter of liberal arts education. His interests were wide and varied and he loved a good discussion. He had a quick wit and a ready laugh and held his family and friends in the highest regard.

He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Beth Heflin Cauvel and his beloved children: daughter, Kate Cauvel and son, Benjamin Cauvel, at home. He was a loving and devoted son, husband and father and a loyal friend who will be greatly missed.

A Memorial Service will be held at held on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Shepherdstown Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Randall Tremba officiating followed by a reception at the church. Interment at Gerrardstown Presbyterian Cemetery will be private.
