Earthfest: Climate Justice. A Call to Action

April 5, 2013
Shepherdstown Chronicle

Earthfest gathers people of various religious and spiritual traditions to celebrate the Earth, lament the abuse of it and resolve to work for renewed care of its land, waters, climate and creatures. The event is Sunday, April 7 at 7 p.m. at the historic Presbyterian Meeting House, 100 W. Washington St., Shepherdstown. The program is kid-friendly and admission is free.

The Earthfest band will be joined by special guest Chief White Deer and White Thunder Drum offering their Wichita Water Song. Band musicians are Greg Lloyd, Terry Tucker, Kipyn Martin, Jade Pope, Steve Wattay, Laura First, Don Oehser, Phil Baker-Shenk and Brad Toole. Mary Anne Hitt, Regina Hendrix and Than Hitt will offer brief reflections on local, regional and national sustainability. Several environmental organizations will be present to offer information and recruit supports.

"It's true," says Pastor Randy Tremba, "the Earth is the Lord's but it requires human hands, minds and hearts to lovingly cultivate its beauty and to humbly mend what we carelessly befoul and break."
