Tour still open

By Staff | Apr 12, 2013

It’s not too late to register for the tour of the American Art Museum’s The Civil War and American Art exhibit. This docent-led tour is a major exhibition of works which examines how America’s artists represented the impact of the Civil War and its aftermath. Winslow Homer, Eastman Johnson, Frederic Church and Sanford Gifford anchor the exhibit. The exhibition follows the conflict from palpable unease on the eve of war, to heady optimism that it would be over with a single battle, to a growing realization that this conflict would not end quickly and a deepening awareness of issues surrounding emancipation and the need for reconciliation. Lunch is on your own.

The cost of this exhibit is $79/$65 for members. The group will leave on Wednesday, April 24 at 8:30 a.m. from St. Agnes Catholic Church parking lot and will return by 5:30 p.m. Please contact krice@shepherd.edu or phone at (304) 876-5135 if interested in registering for this tour.
