Local shop continues donation to Audubons
The On the Wings of Dreams shop in Shepherdstown is once again donating proceeds from crystal sales to the Potomac Valley Audubon Society.
In January, Laura Rau and her husband Jeff celebrated 10 years of the shop’s ownership. This is the sixth year shop owner Laura Rau has set aside three cents from each crystal and mineral sold throughout the year to donate to the Society.
This year’s donation totals $250. The accompanying photo shows Ms. Rau, left, with PVAS Executive Director Kristin Alexander, right. The store dog, Sedona, is in between.
“Supporting the PVAS gives us the opportunity to participate in both environmental and humanitarian efforts,” Ms. Rau said. “The Society’s work to protect and preserve wetlands and other sensitive natural environments are vital in this fast-growing area. The PVAS also sponsors numerous programs to educate children about the environment, encouraging them to get out in nature and away from the computer or TV. It’s an important investment in the future all around.”
“A very special thank you is also in order for the many customers of the shop whose crystal purchases in 2012 contributed to the PVAS donation.”
This year’s donation will be used to support PVAS youth programs, which include camps, scholarships and programs that promote conservation and exploration in nature.
Ms. Rau recently attended the Tucson Gem Show, the largest gem and mineral show in the world, and has returned with many beautiful specimens that will contribute to next year’s donation.
The shop is located at 139 West German Street. In addition to crystals, it offers a wide variety of sterling silver and natural stone jewelry; Native American jewelry, books and music; incense; sages, shells and prayer feathers; magical and ceremonial herbs; tools and statuary for practitioners of Buddhist, Hindu and Earth-Based spiritualities; essential oils; prayer flags and Tibetan and crystal singing bowls.
