Shepherd student selected as intern for Cannes Film Festival

May 10, 2013
Shepherdstown Chronicle

Shepherd University mass communications major Elizabeth McCormick has been selected as an intern at the Cannes Film Festival. McCormick will be the second Shepherd student, and the second American student, to serve the Cannes internship with the French Festival Association. This arrangement was made possible by Richard Patry, president of the Fderation Nationale des Cinmas Francais and friend of Shepherd adjunct professor Dr. Lois Jarman.

McCormick will arrive in Cannes on May 12 and train for three days before the festival opens. She will work in the producers network, assisting producers from all over the world. McCormick was selected from a pool of applicants and was chosen because of her interest in film, as well as the French language and culture.

Cannes is located on the French Riviera, about 30 miles west of Nice. This year's jury president will be Steven Spielberg, and the opening film of the festival will be "The Great Gatsby."
