Organizers of the June 11 Entrepreneurs' Caf have decided to open applications to all entrepreneurs. "Our original intention was to hold a niche event in June, to focus on food-related businesses in the Eastern Panhandle," explained David Rosen. "However, we received feedback from many businesses that they would love to apply for the Caf, just not now, during their busiest season."
Accordingly, applications are now open to all businesses and the deadline has been extended to Monday, June 3. Applications are available at www.facebook.com/EntreprenuersCafeShepherdstownEasternPanhandle or by emailing David Rosen at firstname.lastname@example.org. Entrepreneurs seeking help with strategizing their presentations can contact Sheila Vertino at email@example.com. The Entrepreneurs' Caf will be held on Tuesday, June 11 from 6:30-8:30 p.m., in White Hall, Shepherd University.
Attendance at the Entrepreneurs' Caf is open to all members of the community in the Eastern Panhandle area. At each Caf, attendees pay $10 for a simple meal, and the opportunity to hear five business owners "pitch" their idea or project for funding. At the end of the event, all attendees vote on their favorite project. The winning entrepreneur receives the proceeds from the purchase of meals plus a special cash award provided by the sponsor. The host for the June 11 Caf is Shepherd University, which is providing the food for the event. In-kind sponsors for June include Brackens Painting and FLUENT Magazine.
More than 70 people attended the standing-room-only March Entrepreneurs' Caf, held at Black Dog Coffee in Bardane. Susan Wolcott won a cash grant of $1,000, to fund the purchase of sewing machines for SewInclined, a spinoff of her popular Yarnability shop in Shepherdstown. The new venture, which just opened, adjoins the current shop, and offers fabric, notions and classes.
Limited sponsorship opportunities are available for 2013, by contacting David Rosen at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Entrepreneurs' Caf program is part of a long-term plan to develop the entrepreneurial climate in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia.
