Ralph Scorza, a Shepherdstown resident, was recently honored at the Creative Crafts Council 29th Biennial Show with a first place in mixed media for his jewelry/sculptural work “Soul Catcher in a Carved Cedar Box.” The Creative Craft Council, established in 1955, represents artist guilds in the greater Washington area. Scorza is a member of the Washington Guild Goldsmiths. The exhibition is at the Strathmore Mansion in North Bethesda, Md. and ends on June 16. Find more info by visiting creativecraftcouncil.org.

Over 600 artists submitted works for the 2013 exhibition and 195 were accepted by the jurors.

Three of Scorza’s pieces were included in the show. Scorza has been designing and fabricating jewelry for the past 29 years. His work has been exhibited and awarded in juried exhibitions in West Virginia, Maryland and Florida. His more recent artwork includes sculptures that incorporate wearable jewelry pieces. A selection of his jewelry can be seen locally at the Bridge Gallery until June 16.
