Intermediate Bridge players are invited to join an informal group meeting every Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Trinity Episcopal Chapel. All are welcome and walk-ins are encouraged. For more information, contact 304-876-6244.

The Shepherdstown Museum, at the corner of German and Princess streets, is open on weekends from April through October and during Christmas in Shepherdstown. Hours are: Saturdays, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sundays, 1 p.m.-4 p.m. The Museum tells the history of Shepherdstown and of the Entler Hotel, in which it is located. On display are 18th and 19th century crafts, other early artifacts, and a replica, made by local craftsmen, of James Rumsey’s early steamboat. The South Jefferson Public Library is pleased to announce an art exhibit featuring the works of Stefanie Boss, photographer. This exhibition is the 45th in the Art in the Library series hosted by the library to highlight the talents of local artists. The exhibit runs from July 1 to August 31st and can be viewed during library hours: Monday through Thursday 10- 7, Saturdays 10-5, and Sundays 1-5. The library is closed Fridays. The library is located at 49 Church St, Summit Point.

Movie Night on the lawn at Morgan’s Grove Park! This family fun event offering Madagascar 3 starts at dusk. Bring blankets or chairs and head out for the second annual movie night at the park sponsored by the Shepherdstown Community Club. Popcorn, candy and sodas will be available for purchase. Plan ahead for another movie night Sept. 20 when the SCC will show ’42’ in the park.

Crystal Bowl Concert at noon. Ann Craig performs an extraordinary “sound meditation” using eight quartz crystal bowls that fill the Harmony studio with an energetic yet peaceful vibration that soothes and aligns mind, body and soul. Aug. 17-24

The Jefferson County Fair begins at the Fairgrounds in Leetown. All exhibits are due at the fairgrounds on Saturday, Aug. 17. Pick up a fair book or schedule at all local banks.

Aug. 18

The Potomac Valley Audubon Society will sponsor a geocaching workshop at its Yankauer Nature Preserve in Berkeley County beginning at 4 p.m. It will focus on the basics of geocaching, including the use of the GPS (Global Positioning System).Participants may use their own GPS units or smartphones. GPS units will be available for those who need one. The event will be free and open to the public but space will be limited and pre-registration is essential. At 8 a.m. Harpers Ferry National Historical Park invites the public to retrace the 1906 footsteps of the men and women of the Niagara Movement during a commemorative ranger guided walk to the 1906 site of the John Brown Fort. The ceremony will include music, historic readings and a memorial roll call of the members of the Niagara Movement. Following the pilgrimage, a non-denominational memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. at the Curtis Freewill Baptist Church in Harpers Ferry. Those wishing to participate should drive directly to the Murphy Farm and then to the church. For further information, call Harpers Ferry National Historical Park at 304-535-6029.

6-7 p.m. Yoga Meets Dance with Agi Fejer” Yoga Meets Dance is transformative dance, gentle yoga, and meditation combined in a perfect setting for people who enjoy creative movement. Warming up with yoga and ending in silent meditation complement the series of free-form dance movement that go in between. This is a fun, easy-to-do class! Second and fourth Fridays of each month. Aug. 24

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Shepherdstown Community Club (SCC) will host a Shepherdstown University new, incoming student open-house and reception at the WMB in town. The event is to welcome new freshman students to the community and is a chance for Club members and the community to meet and greet these young people and talk-up the town and all it has to offer. Included is a public Art Show of SU students work and light refreshments will be served. The event will be in the Gallery on the lower level. Save the date and come welcome the new students to town.

4-5:30 pm (also September 28): Tea Time Health Matters–Dave Didden, MD, will host “Tea Time Health Matters,” a free, once-a-month health “chat” at Harmony Healing Arts Center. Dr. Dave will focus on healing and the power of integrative health and therapeutic connections. He will offer a holistic perspective on health, well-being, disease, and death; and perhaps teach a few skills about nutrition, physical activity, and stress reduction. Dr. Dave will illustrate appropriate, informed use of preventive and therapeutic interventions such as medication, surgery, and other modalities of the medical industry. All are welcome. All descendants of John Jacob Link and their families and friends are invited to attend the 61st Link Family Reunion on Sunday, Aug. 25, at 1 p.m. at St. James Lutheran Church Parish Hall, Uvilla.

The church is located on Route 230, 4.5 miles south of Shepherdstown. Please bring a dish for the potluck luncheon. Beverages and utensils will be provided.

The Shepherdstown Community Club will host the annual Labor Day picnic at Morgan’s Grove Park. Watch for more details as the date gets closer.

Sept. 7

The Animal Welfare Society of Jefferson County is having their annual Indoor Yard Sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Zion Episcopal Church Parish House in Charles Town, located at 221 East Washington St. Come check out the large variety of items and help less fortunate cats and dogs in our area. All proceeds will benefit the homeless pets waiting for adoption at the Animal Welfare Society shelter on Leetown Pike, near the Jefferson County Fairgrounds. The AWS shelter is open from Wednesday through Saturday from 11 a.m.to – 4 p.m.

The Jefferson County Council on Aging will host their 2nd Annual Motorcycle Ride at the Anna Mae Reedy Senior Center. Pre-Registration preferred to guarantee t-shirt. Cost for driver $25 (includes lunch and t-shirt); Rider $15 (includes lunch). If you register at the door, the cost for driver will be $30 and t-shirts are subject to availability. Registration is 8:30-10:30 a.m. with a two hour ride to begin at 10:30 a.m. BBQ lunch will be served after ride. Motorcycle ride benefits Jefferson County Council on Aging: Anna Mae Reedy Senior Center and JCCOA Jefferson Center. Registration is due by Aug. 9.
