Obituary Jentsch

August 23, 2013
Shepherdstown Chronicle

Richard C. Jentsch died Aug. 11, 2013, in East Stroudsburg, Pa., after a six-month struggle with leukemia, following a joyful family reunion.

Born July 24, 1934 in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was the spouse of Donald; son of Dorothea and Werner; brother of Theodore and David; beloved uncle of Deborah Jentsch, Karen Hurtado, Lisa and Steve O'Brien, Lynda and Bart Grooms, and Nancy and Phil Enzweiler; beloved brother-in-law of Elizabeth and Hilda.

Richard enjoyed two careers, the first in clinical psychology (Ph.D.), and the second as the co-owner of the Sanguine Gryphon, a popular contemporary gift shop in Shepherdstown.

A longtime member and deacon at Shepherdstown Presbyterian Church, Richard was a lover of great music and enjoyed singing, directing, and listening. He was a lifelong opera lover, attended many live performances across the country, and was an avid listener to the Saturday afternoon Met broadcasts. He brought much joy to the bridge table and was a much-respected instructor in duplicate bridge at Cress Creek Country Club. He traveled extensively, was a superb host, and beloved friend and neighbor to all he met. His volunteer activities included Historic Shepherdstown, Meals on Wheels, and board member of the Ravenwood community where he lived. His Derby Day parties in Shepherdstown have been fondly remembered.

Funeral service will be Saturday, Aug. 24, at 2 p.m., at Shepherdstown Presbyterian Church.

Richard received extraordinary, loving care from Hospice of Washington County (Md.) and Hospice in East Stroudsburg, and memorials may be directed to these organizations, or to one's own local hospice.
