League encourages voter registration

By Staff | Sep 20, 2013

In 2008, 6 million Americans didn’t vote because they missed a registration deadline or didn’t know how to register. In 2013, the Jefferson County League of Women Voters wants to make sure no one is left out.

On Sept. 24, volunteers, celebrities, and organizations from all over the country will “hit the streets” for National Voter Registration Day. This single day of coordinated field, technology and media efforts will create awareness of voter registration opportunities-allowing participants to reach tens of thousands of voters or more who we could not reach otherwise.

The League is once again joining the effort by registering voters at The Shenandoah Community Health Center and at Shepherd University’s Scarborough Library and the dining hall. More registration sites will be opened when more volunteers sign up.

The League is a non-partisan organization open to men and women interested in promoting good government through education and advocacy. For information about joining the Jefferson County League, contact anncoulter@comcast.net or visit civicwomen.wordpress.com/.
