First Friday to feature Chelsea McBee & Random Assortment

By Staff | Dec 6, 2013

Local favorites Chelsea McBee and Random Assortment will be the feature act at First Friday Coffeehouse, Dec. 6, at Trinity Orchard House on Route 45, four miles west of the four-way stop in Shepherdstown. Doors open for social time and open mic sign-up 7 p.m. Open mic starts at 7:30 and is on a first come first serve basis. Eight performers have the opportunity to do two songs (eight minutes each) in front of an attentive audience in one of the area’s premier listening rooms. The feature goes on stage around 9 p.m. for an hour set. Please note the new, earlier starting time.

A premier claw hammer style banjo picker, McBee has been filling the valleys and mountains of West Virginia with down home soul stirring tunes for years. Along with the Random Assortment, the group has gained noticeable popularity with their creative interpretation of traditional music. Their music has been described anywhere from folk, Americana, new grass, jazz-grass and bluegrass. The group features banjo, mandolin, bass and exquisite family harmonies.

A recent review says, “Chelsea McBee’s style plays wonderfully into her roots-sounding mantra, all while maintaining her loyalty to a clear country music-bred background. Or, in other words, think about what it would be like if Norah Jones and Dolly Parton could have a daughter and that daughter happened to grow up in West Virginia.”

First Friday is a great evening of music and fellowship. Snacks and refreshments are served. Trinity Orchard House is located at 4599 Shepherdstown Rd. A $10 donation per person is requested. Presents for Operation Christmas Teen will also be collected at this event. The gifts go to needy teens in the tri-county area.
