Harry Nathaniel Carpenter, Jr., 79, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013, at the Berkeley Medical Center.
Born Aug. 23, 1934, in Shepherdstown, he was the son of the late Harry Nathaniel Carpenter, Sr., and Anna Hamilton Carpenter Nick and stepfather, Lester Nick.
He was a member of Johnsontown Bible Church.
He was retired from Groves Furniture.
He is survived by his wife, Pearl Corder Carpenter; five sons, Marvin Stump, Joshua, Sean, and Zachary Huff, and Noah Whaler; two daughters, Diane Dunn and Tanya Huff; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two brothers, John Nick and Leon Nick; and three sisters, Jane Howell, Joyce Painter, and Betsy Rinker.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Rose Ann Allen; five brothers, the Rev. Jerry and Larry Carpenter, and the Rev. Frank Nick, Melvin Nick, and Michael Nick; and three sisters, Thelma Bartlett, Mary Armstrong, and Shirley Martin.
Memorial services will be held on at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013, at the Johnsontown Bible Church, with Pastor Jim Bishop and Pastor Daryl Welch officiating.
