Harmony’s Winter Yoga Program begins

By Staff | Dec 27, 2013

Harmony Healing Arts Center of Shepherdstown, announced today that its winter 12-week yoga session begins Dec. 29. It starts just in time for the onslaught of New Year resolutions by those seeking a healthier life style in 2014. According to a recent study at the University of Illinois, just 20 minutes of Hatha yoga can improve cognitive function, boosting focus and working memory. And this happens in the very first yoga class!

Harmony’s co-director Terry Lindsay says, “more than 20 million Americans are practicing yoga today. They have discovered its many benefits: greater flexibility, increased bone density, lower stress levels, improved balance, and more. Yoga can help one create a healthier lifestyle because the practice enables you to become more self-aware. When we are more in tune with our mental and physical bodies we tend to take better care of ourselves.”

The 12-week program offers more that 20 weekly classes, not just yoga but also classes in Tai Chi and Qigong. Lindsay says, “There is a class to suit most physical levels. We offer gentle to challenging level classes mornings and evenings. And our teachers work hard to make students feel safe and welcomed.”

New students can visit Harmony’s website: www.harmonyhealingarts.org to see the full description of classes and when they are offered. Four new classes will be launched this session. An additional Tai Chi class has been added to the schedule on Saturday mornings at 10:30 am. At 7:15 p.m., Tuesday evenings (starting Jan. 7), Lindsay will offer a level three class for experienced students exploring backbends, arm balancing, and inversions. On Friday afternoons, the ancient Indian system of healing, Ayurveda, will be practiced in a special Ayurvedic yoga class, from 2-3 p.m. (starting Jan. 10). And for those looking for the gentle expression of yoga, a new Gentle Yoga class will start on Saturday mornings at 9:15 a.m.

Harmony offers high school and college students half price on all yoga classes, just $5 per class. New program members can also enjoy a special promotion: 30 Days for $30. Brand new students can try 30 consecutive days of yoga classes for the low rate of $30. Lindsay says, “This is a great way for those coming to yoga because of a New Year’s resolution to get healthier. The offer allows them to try many different classes and teachers for a minimal investment. And by the end of the 30 days they’ll know where they fit in best and are on their way towards a life long practice of yoga.”
