Shepherdstown's BEST (Better Experiences for Shepherdstown Tourists) Group will sponsor a town-wide yard and tag sale on Saturday, June 14. The sale will be held rain or shine from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The BEST Group is encouraging residents, organizations and businesses throughout the town to participate by combing their attics, garages and basements for items they no longer need but others may want, such as antiques, accessories, furniture, tools and books.
Residents are being asked to join with neighbors to set up sale tables in yards and outbuildings throughout their blocks or neighborhoods, to make those areas a focus of sale activity.
Churches and other organizations can ask their members to contribute items that can be sold to benefit those institutions.
Businesses can set up sale tables in front of their buildings.
The BEST Group will publicize the event and create a map that shows the locations of all the different sales, to help guide visitors to them.
The BEST Group believes this effort will provide not only a fun community event but also an excellent opportunity to attract new visitors to the town.
Town-wide yard sales of this kind have proven to be very popular in small towns around the country.
The Shepherdstown Town Council is very supportive of the idea.
The June 14 sale is being planned by a committee headed by Dave Springer. The committee is looking for residents, organizations and businesses that want to participate, especially residents who would like to help organize their blocks or neighborhoods.
Please contact Springer at firstname.lastname@example.org or 240-818-6688 to get involved or to get more information.
Updates about the sale will also be available on a Facebook page that has been established for the event; the address is www.facebook.com/shepherdstownyyardandtagsale.
