There will be a free French Immersion Story Time for infants though second graders on Monday, Apr. 7 at 4 in the Library’s Children’s Department, and a Spanish Immersion Story time on Monday, Apr. 14, also at 4 p.m. Each session includes a story and a craft. If you have previously registered for these monthly programs, there is no need to do so again.

“Left of the Bank” is our annual library fundraiser featuring poetry and music on Friday, April 11 at 202 S. Princess Street. Doors open at 7 to allow time to enjoy wine, beer, hors d’oeuvres and desserts, and the show runs until 9:30 p.m. Tickets may be bought at the Library or at the event; call (304) 876-2783 for details.

Free films offered at Reynolds Hall at 7 p.m. include “Hollow” on Apr. 11 and “To Kill a Mockingbird” on Apr. 25.

No fines will be charged for overdue items returned during National Library Week, Apr. 13-19! Since this year’s theme is “Lives Change @ Your Library,” children are invited to design a bookmark or draw a picture illustrating that theme (using supplies available in the Children’s Department all week). You are welcome to visit during open hours (M-Th 10 to 7, F 10 to 4, and Sat. 9 to 1) to request amnesty for pre-existing overdue fines during National Library Week.

Join “West Virginia Reads 150+,” a yearlong reading challenge for all ages. Groups or individuals are invited to participate. Any book counts: your own personal ones or library books, audio books or eBooks; just read 150 or more by December 31, 2014! The FOSL Book Group will meet at the Library at 4 p.m. on Friday, Apr. 25 to discuss Allan Eckert’s Blue Jacket: War Chief of the Shawnees.

Adults are invited to borrow a Kindle Touch, pre-loaded with a variety of fiction, nonfiction, or mystery titles. If you prefer, the Librarian will download book titles that you select from our free database. Complete with instructions, a USB cable and a charging adapter, these Kindles may be borrowed for two weeks by permanent residents of Jefferson County. Kindle borrowers must be 18 or older, have a Shepherdstown Library card, and show a driver’s license or WV photo ID.

Morris Dance Workshop will take place on Tuesdays, Apr. 1 and 8. Learn 4 English Border Morris dances and perform them on May Day! This class is a short “no long term commitment” way to experience the fun and exuberance of this high-energy performance dance from the West of England. No experience necessary. Clean soft-soled shoes (like sneakers) are recommended. $25 for all sessions. “Fireball: An Introduction to Shamanic Practice” will be held at Harmony Healing Arts Center from 4-5 p.m. on Fridays, March 28, April 4, 11, and 25. The class is open to grades 5-9. Cost is $40. Shamanic practice is an excellent way to re-establish our connection with nature in these environmentally challenged times. Friends of Shepherdstown Library (FOSL) present an evening of poetry, readings and music.

“Left of the Bank” at the home of Carlos Niederhauser and Liz Wheeler in Shepherdstown. The event will feature music by Don Oehsner and Friends. Doors open at 7 p.m. for refreshments and the program runs from 7:30-9 p.m. Tickets are $35 and will be on sale at the library. All proceeds from the event benefit the Shepherdstown Library’s programs and services.

Breakfast with the Easter Bunny! Come out from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and help American Cancer Society Relay for Life of Jefferson County, WV team “Lazy S Walkers“! The event will be held at New Destiny Church on Border Road in Kearneysville. Tickets for the breakfast are $5.There will be several activities taking place as well as your picture taken with the Easter Bunny. Soap 101: Spring Beginner’s Soap Making Class at 1 p.m. Have you ever wanted to learn to soap from scratch? In this class, students will learn the fundamentals of Cold Process Soap Making.We will make a batch of soap using olive oil, coconut oil, palm oil, cocoa butter, and lye. We’ll add Essential Oils and herbs to make a beautiful natural soap. Each student will receive about one pound of soap from the class.
