Bavarian adds new attraction

The Bavarian Inn celebrated the recent opening of its new infinity pool over Memorial Day weekend with a special BBQ and pool party for members of the public.

The new pool was constructed over the course of the last two years, after Bavarian Inn management looked for ways to meet renewed American with Disabilities Act (ADA) law requirements for handicap accessibility.

According to the Bavarian's Christian Asam, their old pool and outdoor facility did not include things like the necessary wheel chair lift for guests with disabilities.

"We looked at the process of actually doing one of those lifts and we had a 30-year-old pool that was already leaking water," he said.

Described as lima-bean shaped, surrounded by a wooden platform, Asam said the Bavarian chose to "bite the bullet" and move ahead with a whole new pool to better serve community's needs.

The infinity edge pool was designed by a local engineer Dick Klein of Alpha engineers.

Called "Infinity 101," the pool and complex maximize the Bavarian's prime location overlooking the Potomac river.

"It appears that its dropping 101 feet below the Potomac River," Asam said.

"That's how we got the name... It's exactly 101 feet from the edge of the pool to the Potomac River below," he said.

Though the pool is open primarily to hotel guests, day passes are available at $10 per person if the hotel is not fully booked with guests.

Asam said weekdays will be the best bet for those interested.

For more information, call the Bavarian's front desk at 304- 876-2551.

He said the reception from returning guests has been positive so far.

"We are so excited."

Asam said he hopes the pool will serve as another a draw for visitors to the town.

The hotel has already seen a higher occupancy of families and younger guests since advertisement of the new pool began, he said.

"Hopefully our average night's stay is going to be a little longer."

"It's a little more reason to stay for maybe two or three nights," he said.

The pool's bar is open to the general public without a pass everyday form 6 to 8 p.m.
