Dorothy "Nana" Naomi (Zombro) Huff

Dorothy "Nana" Naomi (Zombro) Huff, 92, of Martinsburg, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 12, 2014, at Heartland of Martinsburg, surrounded by her loving family. They would like to acknowledge the wonderful care she received while a resident at Heartland of Martinsburg.

Born June 6, 1922, in Shepherdstown, she was the daughter of the late James Frank Zombro and Elizabeth (Carper) Zombro.

Dorothy was a member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church and the Otterbein Loyal Friendship Sunday School Class for more than 50 years.

She attended Shepherdstown Schools and College.

She worked at Perfection Garment, and retired from Berkeley County Board of Education as a Special Education Teacher's Assistant at Pikeside Special Education School.

Dorothy was known for her loving, caring ways, and positive outlook on life.

She was a member of the Eastern Star - Golden Rule Chapter 69, Loyal Order of the Moose, American Legion Auxiliary, and City Hospital Auxiliary, having volunteered for more than 20 years, and also was a volunteer at the VA Medical Center.

She was very active member of the Berkeley County Senior Center, danced with the Senior Boot Kickers, and named the monthly magazine for the Center, "Senior Spirit."

She is survived by a son, John W. Huff and wife, Judy, of Front Royal, Virginia; daughter, Judie M. Shook and husband, Gary, of Martinsburg; seven grandchildren, Kathy Sherman, Stacey McFarland (husband, Jim), Michael Sherman (wife, Shanda), Jim Huff (wife, Kristie), Andrew Huff (wife, Maya), Gina Dempski, and Gary Shook; nine great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; a dear and special friend, Atlee Lehman; and Nancy Manuel, who she felt was like another daughter.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Ward Huff, in 1968; two brothers, James and Eugene Zombro; and one sister, Eva Churchey.

Eastern Star service will be held at 6 p.m. on Monday, June 16, 2014, at the funeral home.

Services were held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 17, at Brown Funeral Home, with Pastor Mark C. Mooney officiating. Interment was in Rosedale Cemetery.
