Silva, Witt, King named to all-state baseball teams

Following its first-ever trip to the West Virginia baseball state tournament, Washington High had pitcher/infielder Jared Silva named to the All-State first team.Silva recorded a 7-2 pitching record in his senior year and was one of only three pitchers selected to the Class AAA first team.

The Patriots had infielder/pitcher Zac Burch named on the “Special Mention” list and infielder/pitcher Robert Cross selected on the “Honorable Mention” list. Both Burch and Cross are underclassmen.

Jefferson High had infielders Paul Witt and Andrew King selected to the All-State second team. Witt was a sophomore and King a junior on the 2014 team.

Washington went 23-5 overall and moved past Musselman (twice) and Jefferson to win the Class AAA Sectional tournament. The Patriots defeated defending state champion, Hedgesville, in the Regional semifinals and then drilled Lewis County, 12-2, in the Regional finals. Hurricane, the eventual state champion, eliminated Washington in the opening round of the state tournament held in Charleston.

Jefferson was 25-5 during the regular season, showing the school’s 38th consecutive season with at least 20 wins. However, the Cougars lost to Musselman and Washington and went 0-2 in the Sectional tournament.
