Tuesday, Oct. 28: A Halloween parade for members of our Lap Babies, Ones, and Twos groups will meet in costume outside the Shepherdstown Library at 11:15 a.m. After the parade there will be a special story time at the War Memorial Building (102 E. German St.) with Children’s Librarian Lilly Bauer.

Wednesday, Oct. 29: Ages 5 through 12 are invited to hear spine-tingling stories and do Halloween crafts in Anne’s After School Program from 4 to 4:45 p.m. School-age children are invited to attend every Wednesday in October at 4 p.m., for many more spooky stories and frightful crafts!

Oct. 31: The FOSL (Friends of the Shepherdstown Library) Book Club is in search of some new members. The group will meet at 4 p.m. in the Shepherdstown Library to discuss The Language of Flowers by Vanessa Diffenbaugh. Visit 100 E. The Shepherdstown Museum, at the corner of German and Princess streets, is open on weekends from April through October, on July 4, and during Christmas in Shepherdstown. Public hours are: Saturdays, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sundays, 1 p.m.-4 p.m. Visits can be arranged at other times by calling 304-876-0910 on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Outdoor Yoga at Morgan’s Grove Market: Start Saturdays off right! Join us each week for an outdoor yoga flow at Morgan’s Grove Market. Crystal Bowl Concert, 6-6:40 p.m. Ann Craig performs an extraordinary “sound meditation” using eight quartz crystal bowls that fill the Harmony studio with an energetic yet peaceful vibration that soothes and aligns mind, body and soul. The St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Women are hosting a free lecture in McKinley Hall at 209 W. Main Street, Sharpsburg, Maryland from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Dr. Alex Rossino will be discussing his latest book, “Six Days in September: A Novel of the Maryland Campaign.” Light refreshments will be served. Dharma Mittra Yoga Level 2 Class: 2-3:30 p.m. Join Gena Rockwell as she shares the Dharma 2 yoga posture series. Dharma yoga, founded by legendary yoga master Sri Dharma Mittra, is a deeply spiritual and physically challenging practice. Students are encouraged to move slowly and gracefully and make the practice an offering to God or the supreme self. This will be an intermediate level practice and will include chanting, asana, pranayama, meditation and guided relaxation. Donations gratefully accepted. Location: 211 E. New St.

Meals on Wheels of Jefferson County is holding its annual soup, sandwich and bake sale at the Presbyterian Church Fellowship hall located at the corner of Washington and Mildred streets in Charles Town from 8 a.m. till 5 p.m. or the soup is gone. Along with the sale there will be a craft fair from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Open house at station at Shepherdstown: 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Free!! At Zion Episcopal Church Cemetery in Charles Town, Shepherdstown Chapter #128 of the United Daughters of the Confederacy will be dedicating an Iron Cross at the grave of John Augustine Washington, CSA at 10:30 a.m.. Oct. 11-12

There is a tree planting event scheduled at Sam Michael’s Park. This event is through a Chesapeake Bay Communities grant. Each day will start at 9 a.m. We will be planting and fencing 176 small trees along Job Corps Road. We are looking for volunteers to help plant and fence trees. Those interested are asked to RSVP at balmertmarshall@frontier.com and bring work gloves, a shovel and needle nosed pliers.

Oct. 12

Fire, EMS and police are invited to a special service in honor and appreciation of your service and sacrifice to the community. Coffee and donuts will be served at 10 a.m. with the worship service at 11 a.m. Fellowship Bible Church, 160 Daniel Road, Shenandoah Junction. All are encouraged to attend.

Oct. 13

FREE Intro to Yoga Class: 7:15-8:30 p.m. Join Harmony co-studio owner/yoga teacher Terry Lindsay for a fun introductory to yoga class. He’ll lead you through basic yoga poses, guide you into restorative relaxation, and answer all your questions about the practice of yoga and how to get started in Harmony Healing Arts Center’s yoga program. The Shepherdstown Community Club (“SCC”) Annual Book Sale. Please recycle, and share your books with other members of their community. The SCC is now accepting books for the Sale. Or you may drop your books off between the hours of 9 a.m. and 6 p.m., Oct. 13 -17, at the War Memorial Building, 102 E. German Street. The SCC is also seeking volunteers to help sort books during the week of Oct. 13-17. Seasonal Flow Workshop with Gena Rockwell: 18, 2-4 p.m. Join Gena Rockwell, a long-time local yoga teacher and massage therapist, for this workshop, suitable for all levels. It will include ayurvedic lifestyle and dietary recommendations, yin yoga practice, and an extended healing guided relaxation. Vata-balancing tea will be served. Cultivating Inner Strength and Stability with Rebekah Goldstein-Hawes: 4:30-6:30 p.m. Rebekah Goldstein-Hawes will host a yoga workshop on “Cultivating Inner Strength and Stability: Let Your Body Be Your Anchor.” The workshop is suitable for most levels (not recommended for beginners) and will focus on finding the source of our sustainable strength and learning to bring that into each pose with ease and grace. Oct. 23

Dr. Jim Price will present the last event in the Historic Shepherdstown 2014 Speaker Series, “Strange as it Seems: Actual Happenings in Shepherdstown.” His talk will begin at 7 p.m. in the auditorium of the Byrd Center for Legislative Studies. Dr. Price will share with the audience a compendium of little known facts about events that have occurred during the town’s long and colorful history. Given the popularity of Dr. Price’s presentations, you may wish to arrive a bit early to guarantee yourself a seat.
