Raymond Henry Frazier Jr.

Raymond Henry Frazier Jr., 82, of Charles Town, passed away Sunday, Nov. 9, 2014, at Winchester Medical Center.

Born Feb. 13, 1932, in Jefferson County, he was the son of the late Raymond Henry Frazier Sr., and Millie Blanche Haines Frazier.

Following his graduation from Charles Town High School (class of 1950), he served four years in the U.S. Navy. After his service ended, he completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Education at Shepherd College. He began his career at Shepherdstown High School and Harpers Ferry High School, where he taught music and was the band director. Upon obtaining his Master’s Degree from West Virginia University in Administration, he became the principal at Harpers Ferry High School and then worked for the Jefferson County Board of Education, where he retired after a long tenure as superintendent of schools. After his retirement, he was a realtor with Long and Foster of Charles Town.

He was a long time member of the Charles Town Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder, was a member and teacher of the Yokefellows Men’s Class, and sang bass in the Senior Choir. He enjoyed singing barbershop with the Sounds of the Shenandoah Chorus. He was an avid golfer and played regularly with a faithful foursome.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Cecelia Heins Frazier; and three children, Margaret F. Kursey and husband, Mike, of Martinsburg, Denise F. Hale and husband, Cliff, of Clayton, North Carolina, and Aaron M. Frazier and wife, Diane, of Denver, North Carolina. He loved his eight grandchildren, Elizabeth and Brooks Kursey, Clark and Allie Hale, and Madison, Abigail, Katie, and Sam Frazier. He is also survived by a sister, Mary Frances Beauregard, of Charles Town; numerous nieces and nephews, and many friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Mark Raymond; two brothers, Brueis “Buddy” Frazier and Edgar “Gene” Frazier; and two sisters, Juanita V. Grimm and Audrey Barr.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 14, at Charles Town Presbyterian Church with the Rev. John Bethard officiating. Interment will be private at a later date at Edge Hill Cemetery.
