Gregory Marshall Lloyd

Nov 21, 2014

Gregory Marshall Lloyd, 63, of Shepherdstown died on Thursday, Nov. 13, 2014.

Born Jan. 20, 1951 in Martinsburg, he was the son of the late Harold L. and Norma Nell Allamong Lloyd.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen Wright-Lloyd as well as four daughters, Margery Caitlin Masi, of Keene, New Hampshire, Hannah Lloyd and her children, Addison and Nathaniel, of Shepherdstown, Ellie Lloyd, Shepherdstown and Olivia Lloyd, Brooklyn, New York. His brother, Brian D. Lloyd, of Culver City, California, also survives him. Greg leaves behind many beloved extended family members and dear friends as well.

Greg was a graduate of Martinsburg High School and attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill as well as Shepherd College, where he earned a BA in Music Education. Greg was always a musician at heart and, when he could manage it, by trade. He was a chimney sweep (top hat and all) for many years and also had a long career as an Environmental Health Specialist, working in both Winchester and Berryville.

Greg was a Deacon of the Shepherdstown Presbyterian Church where he was also a member of the choir and was instrumental in helping organize events centered on peace and justice. Greg volunteered as a JCAYSO soccer coach and referee and was a member of the WV Senior Olympics volleyball team. We most remember Greg’s music-his talents graced many weddings, parties and music venues. He was a member of numerous local bands since the early 1970’s. The E.Z DuzIt Band, The Fit, The Spare Change Band, The Jeanne Mayle Trio, TreeHouse, The Harlan Springs Band and others were fortunate to call Greg a bandmate and friend. Mary Ellen was beyond fortunate to have been serenaded by Greg and his guitar for more than thirty years.

A celebration of Greg’s life will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2014 at Shepherdstown Presbyterian Church with a potluck reception to follow at Wild Goose Farm.

Memorial gifts can be directed to Shepherdstown Presbyterian Church or the Southern Poverty Law Center.
