Clarence Jeffries “Mac” MacNichols

Clarence Jeffries “Mac” MacNichols, 95, of Shepherdstown passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2014 at the VA Medical Center.

Born Jan. 14, 1919 in New York, New York, he was the son of the late Marion Alfred and Wilhelmina Jeffries Jones MacNichols.

He attended Georgetown University. He was employed after the war with Northwest Orient Airlines and retired from INOVA Health Systems.

Mac was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in World War II with the 102nd Cavalry Reconnaissance Division and was stationed in England where he prepared for the invasion of Normandy landing at Utah Beach. He was fluent in French and arrived in Paris the day before the Liberation of the City. He was awarded the French Croix De Guerre Medal. Before the invasion he was an interpreter for General Dwight D. Eisenhower and General Foche.

He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Shepherdstown and had served as a chalice bearer.

He is survived by his wife, Kristina Carol Wordrup MacNichols; one son, Jeffrey Wordrup MacNichols; three grandchildren, Jonmikel MacNichols, Tiana Marie MacNichols, and Fredrick Ehrsam III; and one great-grandchild, Hanna Grace MacNichols.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ernest, Robert, and one sister, Ceclia MacNichols; and one daughter, Mary Kristina MacNichols Ehrsam.

Memorial service will be held on Monday, November 24 at 11 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church in Shepherdstown, with The Rev. Dr. G. T. Schramm officiating. Interment will be in Trinity Episcopal Church Columbarium.
