Chambers ‘Hikes for Veterans’

By Staff | Nov 21, 2014

Jim Chambers, a U.S. Marine and disabled Veteran, has been hiking and maintaining the Appalachian Trail for over 12 years.

Chambers was on hand Veteran’s Dayat the annual parade and ceremony in Harpers Ferry to commence a walk to support the Wounded Warrior Project “Hike for Veterans.”

Chambers began Veteran’s Day a journey that will take him from Harpers Ferry south to the Southern Terminus of the Appalachian Trail at Springer Mountain, Georgia. He will then turn around and travel the entire Trail to Mt. Katahdin, Maine. Upon his arrival in Maine, Chambers will turn again and travel home to Harpers Ferry. He hopes to complete the journey on Veteran’s Day 2015, one year after his start.

By covering the 4,400 miles in one year, Chambers has a goal of raising $100,000 for the Wounded Warrior Project as well as a goal of raising awareness of the immediate needs of the Appalachian Trail. Having worked on the trail for so many years, Chambers is well versed in the needs of the natural treasure.

Chambers has also worked recently with the Wounded Warrior Project with efforts to expose disabled Veterans with combat injuries and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder to the therapeutic value of hiking the Trail.

All donations, 100 percent collected, will go to the Wounded Warrior Project. Those who wish to contribute to help Chambers reach his goal may do so at hike4veterans.com or woundedwarrior project.org.
