Shepherd will host group that features Eastern European music and dance

By Staff | Feb 5, 2016

The longest-running multicultural song and dance company in the United States, the Duquesne University Tamburitzans, will perform at Shepherd University on Saturday, Feb. 20, at 8 p.m. in the Frank Center Theater. The show will be sponsored by the Performing Arts Series at Shepherd (PASS) and will cost $15 for general admission; $10 for Shepherd staff and senior citizens; $5 for children under age 18; and is free for Shepherd students with valid Rambler ID. Tickets are available at the Shepherd University Bookstore by calling 304-876-5219 or visiting www.shepherdbook.com.

Now celebrating 79 years of touring, the Tamburitzans are made up of more than 30 college dancers and musicians who are dedicated to preserving the cultural heritage of Eastern Europe through song, music and dance. This year’s program, “New Horizons,” will take the audience on a journey through the cultures of Croatia, Georgia, Bulgaria, Hungary, Slovakia, Serbia and Ukraine by showcasing dances, more than 200 colorful costumes, nearly a dozen languages and live music performed on dozens of unique instruments.

Financial support for this PASS program is provided through an allocation of student activity fees approved by the Student Government Association and from Multicultural Student Affairs.
