Audubon Society sponsoring family picnic

By Staff | Jul 1, 2016

The Potomac Valley Audubon Society is sponsoring its second annual “Fireflies, Fiddles and Frogs” family picnic near Shepherdstown the evening of Wednesday, July 13.

The picnic will be held at Wild Goose Farm, which is located at 2935 Shepherd Grade Road, about four miles north of Shepherdstown. It will begin at 6 p.m. and last until dark, which will be about 9 p.m. Everyone is welcome, and no reservations are needed.

Those who come are asked to bring their own picnic supper and blanket or chairs.

The Audubon Society will provide live music, a variety of child- and family-oriented activities, and free ice cream from South Mountain Creamery.

The child- and family-oriented activities will include arts and crafts activities, a live owl, a StoryWalk–capturing fireflies, and exploring the creatures that live in the farm’s pond.

There will be an admission fee of $10 per vehicle.

The farm has a large, modernized barn that can provide shelter in case of rain, so the picnic will be held regardless of weather.
