Groups Ask Capito Not to ‘Cut the Heart Out of West Virginia’

October 13, 2017
Shepherdstown Chronicle

On Monday, local groups plan to gather in Shepherdstown to protest potential funding cuts in Medicare, Medicaid, SNAP (food stamps) and other assistance programs. The attack on healthcare for West Virginians has once again reared its ugly head in Congress. With the support of the Women's March WV and other local groups, we are going to ask Sen. Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., to oppose a Senate budget resolution that would require more than a trillion dollars in funding cuts that would devastate seniors and working families in our state.

The Senate budget resolution, which will be voted on this month, has been characterized as a "Trojan Horse" by Families USA, since its proposal for $1.5 trillion in tax cuts likely would be funded by an equal amount of cuts in funding for Medicare, Medicaid, and other programs.

The demonstration, called "Don't cut the heart out of West Virginia," will take place at 10 a.m. on Monday in front of the wall across German Street from the Shepherdstown library. At the time of the protest, Senator Capito will be at Shepherd University attending a symposium.
