Coming and going

April 20, 2018
Shepherdstown Chronicle

All good things must eventually come to an end. For me, that end is my position at the Chronicle. And yes -my time here was a good thing.

For nearly three years, I've had the opportunity to share in the lives and experiences of the wonderful Shepherdstown folks. I've sat through dozens of Town Council meetings-Shepherdstown has gotten a lot done in three years! I've enjoyed the splendor of the many parades, parties and festivals for which Shepherdstown is known and loved. I've heard your fascinating stories over countless coffees, lunches and dinners.

I've gotten to know Shepherdstown in an intimate way, and I've loved every minute of it.

As I depart, there will be a new editor coming aboard. I'm so pleased to announce that Tabitha Johnston will begin editorial duties starting with next week's edition.

Tabitha is a panhandle native with a degree in journalism and mass communications, and deep family ties to Shepherdstown going back generations. She has a love for music, particularly classical, jazz and musicals. She has taken music classes at Shepherd and is second soprano in the Masterworks Chorale.

She has most recently been writing for the Journal.

I'm sure you will give her a warm welcome-it's the Shepherdstown way. Stop in and say "hi" or drop her a note at the office. I know you will enjoy getting to know one another, and I know Tabitha is committed to sharing news of the Shepherdstown community with journalistic integrity.

Continue to send your comments, letters and story ideas to edit@shepherdstownchronicle.com.

As for me, I'm not leaving for another position elsewhere; I'm just taking some time off to focus on my family. I'll still be around Shepherdstown, enjoying all it has to offer.

I cherish the kind words you've spoken to me about the way I do my job here at the paper.

Farewell to thee! but not farewell

To all my fondest thoughts of thee:

Within my heart they still shall dwell;

And they shall cheer and comfort me. ~Anne Bronte
