Streetscape Improvement Project
Planters
Why all the planters that jut out into German Street as part of the Shepherdstown Streetscape Improvement project? Didn't Martinsburg just complete a total removal of all such similar planters?

if we move the powerlines, the squirrels will have their "highways" taken away.....plus removing the old trees on the sidewalks were the biggest mistake

The planters are a minor irritation compared to the outdated, unsightly network of looming power lines, telephone lines, and power poles that continue to mar the beauty of the downtown area. Why oh why were these not put underground where they belong? Yes, I know its expensive, but lordy lordy, if you're going to do a job, do it right. So what if it took a couple of more years. Bury the lines first, then and only then, finish the job with the planters, sidewalks, trees, and paving. I realize there are those that value the notion that Shepherdstown should look different than other nearby communities, but until these lines are buried, I can only say it will continue to look worse than any of the communities that enhance the downtown viewshed by burying its utilities. Although significantly more expensive, the town should be seeking funds to finish the job.
