The Shepherdstown Library’s free weekly story times for infants through age 12 will continue through May 21: call (304) 876-2783, email splchild@martin.lib.wv.us, or visit the Library at 100 E. German Street to register your children. Lap Babies and Ones meets Tuesdays at 10:15 and Time for Toddlers is at 11:15 on Tuesdays. The After School Program for ages 5 through 12 is held Wednesdays at 4:00 and the Threes, Fours, and Fives program meets Thursdays at 11:15.

April 6: The Library will be open 10 to 7 on Easter Monday.

April 14: Meet West Virginia author Anna Egan Smucker at 1 p.m. in the Shepherdstown Library’s Children’s Department. The first twenty children to arrive will receive a free autographed copy of her picture book, Outside the Window! She will read from her other children’s books and discuss what it is like to be an author. This special program for ages three and older is in celebration of National Library Week, and was paid for with a grant from the Rotary Club of Shepherdstown. To celebrate National Library Week, from April 13 through 18 the Shepherdstown Library is offering amnesty for pre-existing overdue fines (please call 304-876-2783 or stop by), as well as no fines for overdue items returned that week.

April 17: Support the Shepherdstown Library and enjoy an evening of poetry and music. Tickets may be purchased at the Library for this annual “Left of the Bank” fundraiser; call 304-876-2783 for details. The event will be held at 202 South Princess Street, and the doors open at 7 for a wide array of refreshments.

April 18: Ages three and older are invited to attend a special spring story time at 11 a.m. in the Shepherdstown Library’s Children’s Department. This free program will include stories, songs, crafts and a garden activity. For details, please call 304-876-27833.

April 24: The Friends of the Shepherdstown Library (FOSL) Book Club will discuss The Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd at 4 p.m. in the Library.

The Shepherdstown Museum, at the corner of German and Princess streets, is open on weekends from April through October, on July 4, and during Christmas in Shepherdstown. The Mid Atlantic Branch of the Second Indianhead Division Association will have its annual reunion in Lancaster, Pennsylvania on May 1 – 3, 2015 at the Continental Inn. All veterans of the Army’s 2nd Infantry Division are invited, in particular those in the states of New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, New York, Virginia, West Virginia and the District of Columbia. Byrd CLS Film Series 6:30 p.m., Byrd Center for Legislative Studies Auditorium. Screening of the PBS documentary Makers: Women in Politics, which chronicles the modern American women’s movement, featuring interviews with Hillary Clinton, Senator Barbara Mikulski, and Representative Shirley Chisholm among many others. There will be a post-film discussion. This event is free and open to the public.

Jala Yoga hosts an information session about its upcoming Summer Intensive Teacher Training on Saturday, from 2-3 p.m. The information session takes place at Jala’s Winchester studio, Creekside Station, 3119 Valley Avenue, Unit 110. Christa Mastrangelo Joyce, lead teacher of the course, will explain the format of the 200-hour, Yoga Alliance-registered training. Light refreshments will be served. To celebrate receipt of the WV Department of Environmental Protection Certificate of Completion for cleanup of the former 4.5 acre Shepherdstown dump site, Shepherdstown Public Library is hosting a celebration event at the future site of the new library at the end of Lowe Drive across from the Clarion Hotel. Free Group Hypnosis For Healing, 6:45-7:30 p.m. Michelle DeStefano, certified consulting hypnotist, will conduct group-hypnosis sessions designed to promote healing on a body-mind-spirit level. This is a 45-minute session where she will guide participants to activate their subconscious mind to promote healing and a healthy sense of well-being.
