Saturday, Nov. 14: Children three and older are invited to a special “Outdoors in the Library” Saturday program with stories and activities (sponsored by the Potomac Valley Audubon Society) at 11 a.m. in the Library’s Children’s Department.

Thanksgiving hours: The Shepherdstown Library will be open from 10 a.m. to noon on Wednesday the 25th, so the “Three to Fives” group and the “After School Story Time” will not meet that day. The Library will be closed on Thanksgiving but will be open regular hours on Friday, the 27th and Saturday the 28th.

The FOSL Book Club will not meet in November.

The Shepherdstown Library’s free programs continue through Dec. 9; no registration is required. “Lapbabies” for children birth through 18 months is on Tuesdays from 10:15 to 11 a.m. “Time for Twos” meets from 11:15 to noon on Tuesdays. The “Three to Five Year Olds” program is Wednesdays from 11:15 to noon. Intermediate Bridge players are invited to join an informal group meeting every Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Trinity Episcopal Chapel. All are welcome and walk-ins are encouraged. For more information, contact 304-876-6244.

The Shepherdstown Museum, at the corner of German and Princess streets, is open on weekends from April through October, on July 4, and during Christmas in Shepherdstown. Public hours are: Saturdays, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sundays, 1 p.m.-4 p.m. Visits can be arranged at other times by calling 304-876-0910 on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Business owners, managers and other movers and shakers are invited to partake in the Shepherdstown Mysteries Walk at 7 p.m. on Saturdays. Join Dana Mitchell in front of the Shepherdstown Library and experience her Mysteries Walk. Walk the backstreets and hear of forgotten history, local legends and lore, unrequited love and murder, and of course ghostly tales. Call Dana at 240-593-2317 for further information.

The Animal Welfare Society of Jefferson County is proud to announce their participation in the Dining for Dollars fundraiser at Glory Days Grill in Ranson which began Sept.1 and continues through Nov. 30. When you dine at Glory Days Grill in Ranson, the restaurant will contribute 10% of your total food purchases to the Animal Welfare Society of Jefferson County. Bring your neighbors, friends, and relatives, keep your copy of your guest check (not credit card receipt), and either mail it to: AWS P.O. Box 147, Charles Town, WV, 25414, place it in the collection box at Petco in Ranson, give to a board member, or drop it off at the shelter on Leetown Pike.

Gerdan ensemble is named after a multi-colored, intricately woven beaded necklace from Carpathian Mountains in Ukraine. The Gerdan concert features traditional songs and folk melodies from Ukrainian, Slovak, Czech, Gypsy sources that are rich in history, and complexity. Bringing together a duo of folk and classically trained musicians consisting of flute master, Andrei Pidkivka who plays a vast assortment of folk flutes from the region, violinist Solomia Gorokhivska and special guest guitarist, Richard Miller, this concert will bring to life music of the Ukraine! Ricco Gallery opens an exhibit, “Ricco Paints: Bridges of Shepherdstown,” with a public reception from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The exhibit of work by Riccardo Accurso is at the gallery, 125 West German St., next door to the Press Room restaurant. On display will be about two dozen paintings of Shepherdstown’s iconic Potomac River bridges, most of them painted from the vantage point of the historic Princess St. Potomac River ferry crossing. Trinity Treasure Kids Preschool invites the community to a spaghetti dinner from 5-7 p.m. The dinner will be held in the fellowship hall of Trinity Episcopal Church at the corner of Church and German streets in Shepherdstown.

Nov. 15

The annual meeting of the Animal Welfare Society of Jefferson County will be held at 3 p.m. at the Grace Reformed Church in Kearneysville. All members of the Animal Welfare Society are invited to attend to learn more about the 63 year old organization and how to help the homeless animals in Jefferson County.

Nov. 17

Enjoy a three-course themed dinner: starting with hors d’oeuvres; then turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, green beans, salad, rolls, & ending with pumpkin pie. Jefferson County Parks and Rec will host their annual Holiday Craft Fair and Chili Cookoff at the Jefferson County Community Center from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Chili cooks are welcome to submit their product free of charge to be judged by attendees at the all-day fair. Nov. 22

Shepherdstown Community Thanksgiving service will be hosted by St. Agnes Catholic Church, 106 S. Duke St, at 4:30 p.m. The community is invited to share in this harvest of gratitude. Representatives from religious and civic organization will offer a brief word of thanks for the blessings of this year. The program includes songs of praise and a special presentation by the Shepherdstown Elementary School Chorus.

Dec. 5

Contra Dance Duggan Murphy calls lively contra dances to the fine music of Blackjack Grove, with Bethany Waickman on guitar, Glen Loper on mandolin and Julie Metcalf on fiddle at the Shepherdstown War Memorial Building. Beginners workshop at 7:30 p.m., dance starts at 8PM. All levels welcome, no partners needed. Please wear clean, soft-soled shoes to protect the floor. Potluck snacks at the break.
