Saturday, Nov. 14: Children three and older are invited to a special “Outdoors in the Library” Saturday program with stories and activities (sponsored by the Potomac Valley Audubon Society) at 11 a.m. in the Library’s Children’s Department.

Thanksgiving hours: The Shepherdstown Library will be open from 10 a.m. to noon on Wednesday the 25th, so the “Three to Fives” group and the “After School Story Time” will not meet that day. The Library will be closed on Thanksgiving but will be open regular hours on Friday, the 27th and Saturday the 28th.

The FOSL Book Club will not meet in November.

The Shepherdstown Library’s free programs continue through Dec. 9; no registration is required. “Lapbabies” for children birth through 18 months is on Tuesdays from 10:15 to 11 a.m. “Time for Twos” meets from 11:15 to noon on Tuesdays. The “Three to Five Year Olds” program is Wednesdays from 11:15 to noon. The Shepherdstown Museum, at the corner of German and Princess streets, is open on weekends from April through October, on July 4, and during Christmas in Shepherdstown. Public hours are: Saturdays, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sundays, 1 p.m.-4 p.m. Visits can be arranged at other times by calling 304-876-0910 on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Business owners, managers and other movers and shakers are invited to partake in the Shepherdstown Mysteries Walk at 7 p.m. on Saturdays. Join Dana Mitchell in front of the Shepherdstown Library and experience her Mysteries Walk. The Animal Welfare Society of Jefferson County is proud to announce their participation in the Dining for Dollars fundraiser at Glory Days Grill in Ranson which began Sept.1 and continues through Nov. 30. Gerdan ensemble is named after a multi-colored, intricately woven beaded necklace from Carpathian Mountains in Ukraine. The Gerdan concert features traditional songs and folk melodies from Ukrainian, Slovak, Czech, Gypsy sources that are rich in history, and complexity. Bringing together a duo of folk and classically trained musicians consisting of flute master, Andrei Pidkivka who plays a vast assortment of folk flutes from the region, violinist Solomia Gorokhivska and special guest guitarist, Richard Miller, this concert will bring to life music of the Ukraine! Ricco Gallery opens an exhibit, “Ricco Paints: Bridges of Shepherdstown,” with a public reception from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The exhibit of work by Riccardo Accurso is at the gallery, 125 West German St., next door to the Press Room restaurant. On display will be about two dozen paintings of Shepherdstown’s iconic Potomac River bridges, most of them painted from the vantage point of the historic Princess St. Potomac River ferry crossing. The annual meeting of the Animal Welfare Society of Jefferson County will be held at 3 p.m. at the Grace Reformed Church in Kearneysville. All members of the Animal Welfare Society are invited to attend to learn more about the 63 year old organization and how to help the homeless animals in Jefferson County.

Nov. 22

Shepherdstown Community Thanksgiving service will be hosted by St. Agnes Catholic Church, 106 S. Duke St, at 4:30 p.m. The community is invited to share in this harvest of gratitude. Representatives from religious and civic organization will offer a brief word of thanks for the blessings of this year. The program includes songs of praise and a special presentation by the Shepherdstown Elementary School Chorus.

Contra Dance Duggan Murphy calls lively contra dances to the fine music of Blackjack Grove, with Bethany Waickman on guitar, Glen Loper on mandolin and Julie Metcalf on fiddle at the Shepherdstown War Memorial Building.
