Tuesday, Oct. 4: The courageous Harriet Tubman will be portrayed by Ilene Evans at 7 p.m. at O’Hurley’s General Store (205 East Washington Street). This free “History Alive” program is sponsored by the Friends of the Shepherdstown Library.

The Library’s popular children’s programs will continue through December 7; no registration is required. “Lapbabies” for children birth through 18 months is on Tuesdays from 10:15 to 11 a.m. “Time for Twos” meets from 11:15 to noon on Tuesdays. The Shepherdstown Museum, at the corner of German and Princess streets, is open on weekends from April through October, on July 4, and during Christmas in Shepherdstown. Public hours are: Saturdays, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sundays, 1-4 p.m. Visits can be arranged at other times by calling 304-876-0910 on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Calling all knitters, quilters, rugmakers and others! We meet in the Trinity Episcopal Church Fellowship Hall, corner of German and Church streets, every Tuesday afternoon from 1 to 4 p.m. Work on your own projects while socializing with other crafters. (We also take time out for tea and snacks.)

The Trinity Thrift Shop is open on Thursdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Stop by for some cool finds – clothing for all, jewelry, books, movies, toys, kitchen and other house wares, prints, knick knacks, and holiday items! The Shop accept accepts donations of clothing, books, jewelry, and many other items. It also collects used eye glasses on behalf of the Lion’s Club. The Thrift Shop cannot accept furniture, other large items and electronics due to limited space. Contributions may be delivered to the screened-in back porch at any time. The Shepherdstown Mysteries Walk continues throughout the summer and into the fall every Friday and Saturday evening. The 90 minute walk starts at dusk and showcases at least 20 stories and legends of the town, retold by researcher, Dana Mitchell. Cost is $12 per person and comfortable walking shoes are recommended. A community gathering in the spirit of St. Francis-will celebrate the wondrous web of life in song, skits and stories at the Presbyterian Meeting House, 100 W. Washington St., Shepherdstown, at 7 p.m. Local musicians include Don Oehser, Laura First, Sam Jannotta and Lisa Lafferty, Todd Coyle, Steve Warner, Michael Wisniewski, Jade Pope Tremba, Morgan Sell, Betty Jo and Scott Rockwell, Butch Sanders, Ardyth Gilbertson and Terry Tucker. The concert is free. All are welcome.

Shepherdstown Music and Dance hosts a contra dance at the War Memorial Building. Featured is Andrea Nettleton calling contras and squares to the music of Ricochet with Walter Hojka on fiddle and Rya Martin on piano. Join us for a free dance workshop from 7:30 to 8 p.m. Please bring clean soft-soled shoes to protect the floor. Enjoy pot-luck snacks at the break. Admission to the dance, which starts after the lesson, is $12 for non-members and $8 for members of SMaD and $5 for dancers under age 12. Order Sons of Italy in America will host their 35th annual Columbus Day dinner dance at the Elks Club, 11063 Robinwood Drive, Hagerstown, Maryland from 5 to 11 p.m. Cost is $35 per individual and includes dinner buffet, dancing and door prizes.
