Wed. Nov. 23: The Shepherdstown Library will be open from 10 a.m. to noon, so the Threes, Fours, and Fives program will not meet at 11:15 a.m. The Library will reopen at 10 a.m. on Friday the 25th.

Friday, Nov. 25: The FOSL Book Club will meet in the Library (100 E. German St.) at 5 p.m. to discuss In the Language of Miracles by Rajia Hassib.

The Shepherdstown Museum, at the corner of German and Princess streets, is open on weekends from April through October, on July 4, and during Christmas in Shepherdstown. Public hours are: Saturdays, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sundays, 1-4 p.m. Visits can be arranged at other times by calling 304-876-0910 on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Calling all knitters, quilters, rugmakers and others! We meet in the Trinity Episcopal Church Fellowship Hall, corner of German and Church streets, every Tuesday afternoon from 1 to 4 p.m. Work on your own projects while socializing with other crafters. (We also take time out for tea and snacks.)

The Trinity Thrift Shop is open on Thursdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Stop by for some cool finds – clothing for all, jewelry, books, movies, toys, kitchen and other house wares, prints, knick knacks, and holiday items! The Shop accept accepts donations of clothing, books, jewelry, and many other items. It also collects used eye glasses on behalf of the Lion’s Club. The Thrift Shop cannot accept furniture, other large items and electronics due to limited space. Contributions may be delivered to the screened-in back porch at any time. The Shepherdstown Mysteries Walk continues throughout the summer and into the fall every Friday and Saturday evening. The 90 minute walk starts at dusk and showcases at least 20 stories and legends of the town, retold by researcher, Dana Mitchell. Cost is $12 per person and comfortable walking shoes are recommended. The Potomac Valley Audubon Society will hold an open house at its new Cool Spring Nature Preserve on from 1-4 p.m. It will be free, and everyone will be welcome. The event will include family-friendly snacks and activities, and tours of the preserve and its buildings will be offered. The Jefferson County Community Choir “Celebrate America” Concert and Silent Auction will be at 3 p.m. at Jefferson High School, 4141 Flowing Springs Rd. in Shenandoah Junction. A $5 donation entrance fee is recommended and cash and checks accepted for the silent auction. All proceeds benefit the Jr. ROTC project to support the Jefferson County Coat and Shoe Fund.

Shepherd University’s Department of Political Science is hosting a Teach-In from noon-1 p.m. in the Robert C. Byrd Center for Congressional History and Education auditorium to analyze the 2016 elections and explore their implications for the future of policy-making, campaigning, and ideology. The event is free and open to the public. Panelists will be political science professors Dr. Max Guirguis, Dr. Aart Holtslag, Dr. Joseph Robbins, Dr. Stephanie Slocum-Schaffer, and Dr. Jay Wyatt, director of programs and research at the Byrd Center.

The Shepherd University Honors Program and Department of English and Modern Languages is sponsoring a poetry reading with Dr. Temple Cone, professor of English at the U.S. Naval Academy, at 7 p.m. in the Robert C. Byrd Center for Congressional History and Education auditorium. The event is free and open to the public. Cone will read primarily from his new work “Guzzle” (2016), which is a collection of poems that represents a contemporary American take on the classical Arabic, Persian, and Urdu form of the ghazal. Cone is the author of several other books of poetry, including “That Singing” (2011); “The Broken Meadow,” which received the 2010 Old Seventy Creek Poetry Press Series Prize; and “No Loneliness,” which received the 2009 Future Cycle Poetry Book Prize. Charles Dickens’ classic story of how the miserly old Ebenezer Scrooge is transformed into a charitable soul when he is visited one cold Christmas Eve by his former partner Jacob Marley and three different apparitions. A Christmas Carol, written by Charles Dickens in December 1843, is a haunting ghost story teaches old Scrooge, and in turn each of us, the importance of family, charity and friendship. The play will come alive at the Charles Town Old Opera House Dec. 1-4 and 8-11. Show times and prices are Thursday at 7:30 p.m., $22; Friday and Saturday evenings at 8 p.m., $22; Sunday matinee at 2:30 p.m., $22.
