Friday, November 25: The FOSL Book Club will not meet. Their next meeting will be on Friday, Jan. 27.

Wednesday, Nov. 30: The Board of the Shepherdstown Public Library will hold its monthly meeting starting at 7:00 p.m. in the Library (100 E. German St.). This meeting is open to the public. Saturday Dec. 3: Join Shepherdstown Library’s Christy Hagerty and walk with her in Shepherdstown’s Christmas parade. Meet the Children’s Librarian at 9:15 a.m. on Church Street, and the parade will begin at 10 a.m.

Wednesday, Dec. 7: The “Three to Fives” group will meet in the Library’s Children’s Department at 11:15 a.m. and then will resume its weekly meetings on Wednesday, Jan. 11.

Saturday, Dec. 10: Children three and older are invited to a “Milk and Cookies” story time with songs, stories, and a craft at 11 a.m. in the Library’s Children’s Department. The Shepherdstown Museum, at the corner of German and Princess streets, is open on weekends from April through October, on July 4, and during Christmas in Shepherdstown. Public hours are: Saturdays, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sundays, 1-4 p.m. Visits can be arranged at other times by calling 304-876-0910 on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Calling all knitters, quilters, rugmakers and others! We meet in the Trinity Episcopal Church Fellowship Hall, corner of German and Church streets, every Tuesday afternoon from 1 to 4 p.m. Work on your own projects while socializing with other crafters. (We also take time out for tea and snacks.)

The Trinity Thrift Shop is open on Thursdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Stop by for some cool finds – clothing for all, jewelry, books, movies, toys, kitchen and other house wares, prints, knick knacks, and holiday items! The Shop accept accepts donations of clothing, books, jewelry, and many other items. It also collects used eye glasses on behalf of the Lion’s Club. The Thrift Shop cannot accept furniture, other large items and electronics due to limited space. Contributions may be delivered to the screened-in back porch at any time. The Shepherdstown Mysteries Walk continues throughout the summer and into the fall every Friday and Saturday evening. The 90 minute walk starts at dusk and showcases at least 20 stories and legends of the town, retold by researcher, Dana Mitchell. Cost is $12 per person and comfortable walking shoes are recommended. Nov. 25

The Kiwanis Club of Shepherdstown holds its annual chili and cornbread supper from 4 – 8 p.m. upstairs of the War Memorial Building (Community Club) in downtown Shepherdstown. Patrons can enjoy more than a dozen varieties of homemade chili. Adults pay $6 while children 6-12 pay $4, and under 6 are free. Also on tap will be a raffle and sale of Shepherdstown ornaments. Proceeds from the event benefit Kiwanis programs that help children and young people in the community.

Dec. 1

Shepherd University’s Martinsburg Center, 261 Aikens Center in Martinsburg, is hosting an open house and Red Cross blood drive from noon-5:30 p.m. The open house will offer tours of the center and highlight the programs offered there, including the Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) and accelerated M.B.A, Regents Bachelor of Arts, registered nursing to Bachelor of Science in Nursing, special education endorsement, and Doctor of Nursing Practice. Visitors will have the opportunity to speak with program coordinators/program assistants, financial aid representatives, tour the facility, receive an application fee waiver for applying on the spot, enjoy light refreshments, and learn about the discounts the center provides to potential students. Dec. 1-4; 8-11

Charles Dickens’ classic story of how the miserly old Ebenezer Scrooge is transformed into a charitable soul when he is visited one cold Christmas Eve by his former partner Jacob Marley and three different apparitions. A Christmas Carol, written by Charles Dickens in December 1843, is a haunting ghost story teaches old Scrooge, and in turn each of us, the importance of family, charity and friendship. The play will come alive at the Charles Town Old Opera House Dec. 1-4 and 8-11.

Show times and prices are Thursday at 7:30 p.m., $22; Friday and Saturday evenings at 8 p.m., $22; Sunday matinee at 2:30 p.m., $22. Dec. 3

Shepherdstown Music and Dance Holiday Potluck and Contra/Square Dance occurs from 6 to 11 p.m. at the War Memorial Building in Shepherdstown. Local favorite, Critton Hollow String Band, will provide the live music with Janine Smith, calling squares and contras. Guest square dance caller from Shepherd University, Nevada Tribble, will call a dance or two. All are welcome. Bring a dish to share. All dances are taught and no need to bring a partner. A beginners’ workshop will take place at 7:30. The dance starts at 8pm and admission is $12 for non-members and $8 for members. Children under 12 are free.
