Sat. Jan. 21 and Sun. Jan. 22: The Rumsey Radio Hour (music, satire, and much more) will be presented at Shepherd University’s Marinoff Theater (62 West Campus Drive) at 2:30 and 8 p.m. on Saturday, and at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets for these live shows may be purchased at the Shepherdstown Library or at www.foslwv. org/; save $5 per ticket if purchased before January 19. The proceeds benefit the Library’s programs.

Fri. Jan. 27: The FOSL Book Club will meet at 5 p.m. in the Library to discuss The Hemingway Book Club of Kosovo by Paula Huntley.

The Shepherdstown Museum, at the corner of German and Princess streets, is open on weekends from April through October, on July 4, and during Christmas in Shepherdstown. Public hours are: Saturdays, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sundays, 1-4 p.m. Visits can be arranged at other times by calling 304-876-0910 on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Calling all knitters, quilters, rugmakers and others! We meet in the Trinity Episcopal Church Fellowship Hall, corner of German and Church streets, every Tuesday afternoon from 1 to 4 p.m. Work on your own projects while socializing with other crafters. (We also take time out for tea and snacks.)

The Trinity Thrift Shop is open on Thursdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Stop by for some cool finds – clothing for all, jewelry, books, movies, toys, kitchen and other house wares, prints, knick knacks, and holiday items!

The Shop accept accepts donations of clothing, books, jewelry, and many other items. It also collects used eye glasses on behalf of the Lion’s Club. The Thrift Shop cannot accept furniture, other large items and electronics due to limited space.

The Shepherdstown Mysteries Walk continues throughout the summer and into the fall every Friday and Saturday evening. The 90 minute walk starts at dusk and showcases at least 20 stories and legends of the town, retold by researcher, Dana Mitchell. Cost is $12 per person and comfortable walking shoes are recommended.

Enjoy a fine evening of fiddle music with astounding accompaniment at this annual showcase concert and Fiddle Summit. Artists feature a wide variety of styles including Katie McNally and Elke Baker (Scottish, Cape Breton), Graham DeZarn (Irish), Alexander Mitchell (bluegrass, swing), Andrea Hoag (Scandinavian, English, more) and Alan Jabbour and Rachel Eddy (Appalachian), as well as Karen Ashbrook on the hammered dulcimer and all accompanied by multi-instrumentalist Paul Oorts and Dave Wiesler on guitar. Concert takes place at Shepherdstown Presbyterian Church, 100 West Washington Street, Shepherdstown at 8 p.m. Tickets are $20 adults, $18 seniors, $15 members, $10 students. Shepherdstown Contra Dance at 8 p.m. Kappy Lanning calls a lively array of contra dances to the rollicking tunes of the Fiddle Retreat Open Band, led by Alexander Mitchell, Andrea Hoag, Dave Wiesler and Paul Oorts along with a talented crew of students attending the workshops. The dance is held in the War Memorial Building, 102 E. German Street.

Jan. 14

Squeeze the Bag–8 p.m.: The bellows-blown bagpipe is a quieter, more parlor-oriented cousin to the great highland bagpipes most folks are familiar with, designed to be played with other instruments in smaller, more intimate settings. Four kinds of bagpipes will be featured: the Scottish smallpipe, the quieter cousin of the great highland pipes, the Irish uilleann (or Union) pipes, Northumbrian smallpipes and the Border pipes which are played in the border region between Scotland and England. The concert is divided into three sections We’ll open with the tiny Northumbrian pipes of England with Dick Hensold, then we’ll move to Irish section of the program with uilleann piper, Joey Abarta, flutist John Skelton, and fiddler, Nathan Gourley.

The Scottish section of the concert will feature pipers Hollis Easter, Nick Hudson, and Iain MacHarg all tied together by our host piper, Bob Mitchell and more, in a set of music from the highlands and border regions of Scotland and Cape Breton on both Scottish smallpipes and Border pipes.
