Fri., Feb. 24: The FOSL Book Club will meet in the Shepherdstown Library at 5 p.m. to discuss Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates.

Saturday, Mar. 4: The Shepherdstown Library will be open from 10 a.m. to noon and then be CLOSED that day from noon to 3 p.m. for general maintenance. The Library’s popular children’s programs are offered in the Children’s Department through May 24; no registration is required. “Lapbabies” for children birth through 18 months is Tuesdays from 10:15 to 11 a.m. “Time for Twos” meets from 11:15 to noon on Tuesdays. The Shepherdstown Museum, at the corner of German and Princess streets, is open on weekends from April through October, on July 4, and during Christmas in Shepherdstown. Calling all knitters, quilters, rugmakers and others! We meet in the Trinity Episcopal Church Fellowship Hall, corner of German and Church streets, every Tuesday afternoon from 1 to 4 p.m. Work on your own projects while socializing with other crafters. (We also take time out for tea and snacks.)

The Trinity Thrift Shop is open on Thursdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Stop by for some cool finds – clothing for all, jewelry, books, movies, toys, kitchen and other house wares, prints, knick knacks, and holiday items! The Shop accept accepts donations of clothing, books, jewelry, and many other items. It also collects used eye glasses on behalf of the Lion’s Club. The Thrift Shop cannot accept furniture, other large items and electronics due to limited space. Contributions may be delivered to the screened-in back porch at any time. The Jefferson County Community Choir is seeking singers for their spring, Apr. 20 concert. Rehearsals begin on Tuesday, March 7, from 7 until 9 p.m. and every subsequent Tuesday. Rehearsals are held in the basement Social Hall at St. James Catholic Church until the concert. There is a $20 membership fee. No audition necessary. The Eastern Regional Jazz Festival will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Martinsburg High School, 701 S. Queen St. in Martinsburg. A total of 15 middle and high school jazz bands from Berkeley, Morgan and Jefferson counties will perform, and awards will be given. Admission is free; concessions will be sold. Good Shepherd Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers presents Maggie’s Card Party at 10 a.m. Featuing bridge, bunco and mahjong at The Club at Cress Creek, 100 Cress Creek Drive. Tickets are $30 with $15 of that tax deductible. Lunch is included.

Mar. 4

Shepherdstown Music and Dance hosts its next contra dance from 8 to 11p.m. at the War Memorial Building on German Street. The caller Will Mentor will call contra and square dances to the music of Graham DeZarn and friends.

All levels are welcome, no partners needed. The free lesson begins at 7:30. Please wear or bring clean soft-soled shoes to protect the ballroom floor. Potluck snacks are presented at the break. Mark your calendars for the VETERUN. This race is a 5K, 1/2 marathon and Fun Run at Summit Point Speedway in Summit Point, WV. Proceeds from the race benefit veterans’ causes and donations in the past have been made to: Shepherd University Student Veteran Organization; Charles Town VFW; Jefferson County Parks & Recreation for Veterans’ Pavilion. This is a chance to run on the racetrack for CASH awards. Wounded warriors are eligible for free registration and the race is seeking wheelchair athletes for its “Steve’s Wheelers” division. The Jefferson County Museum will celebrate the beginning of the 2017 season with a free, public reception from 14 p.m. at the Museum, located at 200 East Washington Street in Charles Town. Visitors can enjoy light refreshments and view new exhibits on the founding of Storer College and Jefferson County in World War I, including an exhibit on African American soldiers presented by the Marshall-Holley-Mason American Legion Auxiliary Unit 102.
