Day Care Re-Wrap a success
Kudos to the Chronicle and its avid readers! The SDC Re-Wrap event was a success! With donations overflowing the cafeteria area of the Shepherdstown Day Care Center last Wednesday night, Dec. 17, we were able to provide both used and new items to about 31 families at the day care. Cash purchases of remaining items was done Thursday night.
The community support was incredible. From the free storage from John Christman to donations from United Bank, the local Masonic Lodge, Millville Methodist Church, Gannett Co. employees, SDC families and staff, the Alpha Sigma Tau sorority, and many community members, the outpouring was overwhelming.
I had people respond to the Chronicle letters and meet me to donate items. We had one little girl that gave half of her birthday presents to this event. So many good stories! The best part, though, is the happy ending. We were able to provide gifts for 17 of the 24 kids that are currently with Safe Haven Child Advocacy Program in Martinsburg (The Pink House). We were able to provide much needed gifts for our parents and staff at the day care.
We had many thank-yous from the recipients that I must pass along, including some teary-eyed thank-yous. You really touched our hearts. I applaud all who reached out during these difficult times to Shepherdstown Day Care Center. I sincerely thank those people who put in the hours to make this happen. We are blessed to live in such a caring community.
God bless you all and Merry Christmas.
