All politicians include their families, not ‘props’

By Staff | Feb 13, 2009

Where is the outrage over Federal Judge Naomi Reice Buchwald’s comments that Sarah Palin used her Downs Syndrome son as a “prop” after her Vice Presidential debate with then Senator Joe Biden? Where are the voices that sounded so loudly for Anita Hill?

Where are the outraged voices from handicapped advocates?

I suppose that political party affiliation trumps principle. Have we reached a point where the children of politicians are no longer safe from being politicized?

Objectively, all politicians bring their families to certain political events, and rightly so. Where is the cry that Senator Biden used his family on the same night ,on the same stage, for the same purpose? Or that President Obama brought his daughters out on stage several times at various political events as a “prop?” These criticisms don’t exist. Quite simply they shouldn’t. Neither should the comments by a Federal Judge about Mrs. Palin bringing her son on stage with her.

Mr. Obama asks us reach beyond political differences and to work towards a common decency towards each other. Let it start with an apology from Judge Buchwald.
