Engine 3 voted tops

By Staff | May 8, 2009

Competing against fire departments across the tri-state region, the Shepherdstown Fire Department’s Rescue Engine 3 won first place at this year’s Winchester Apple Blossom Festival Parade, earning the title of best looking rescue engine.

The award was an improvement over SFD’s showing at last years Apple Blossom Parade, where the same engine received 2nd place.

Marshall Demerritt, press relations officer for the SFD, said that over four hours of work went into preparing the vehicle for competition in the custom rescue engine class.

Fire equipment is judged on cleanliness of the exterior and interior of the truck, as well as the appearance of the rescue tools contained within.

“It’s a pretty cool thing”, said Demerritt, “to get recognized for having the nicest truck in the tri-state area.”
