Warrant issued in stabbing

By Staff | May 15, 2009

State Police Senior Trooper J. A. Meeks applied Monday for two arrest warrants in relation to an April 19 stabbing that happened at a residence along W.Va. 45.

Meeks said “at least” two people are expected to be charged, and a warrant for malicious wounding was issued Monday. The names of those charged are not released until the warrants are served.

The stabbing occurred after a fight at 8074 Martinsburg Pike, a house next to the Shepherdstown Fire Department, Meeks said. Six people were involved in the fight, which led to the stabbing, he added.

Shepherdstown Police Department’s duty log had indicated a 2 a.m. call for backup at a Sandpiper Lane house, but Meeks said Monday that was a separate incident. “They definitely were not related,” Meeks said.

Meeks is expected to seek a charge of malicious wounding against one individual and a separate charge of battery against a second involved in the fight.

State Police Sgt. R. T. Dyroff confirmed last month that the stabbing incident had occurred, but could not report any further details at the time without compromising the investigation, he said.

The Journal newspaper reported April 20 “the victim was stabbed six times and was flown to Winchester for … treatment.” The victim was released from the hospital later the same morning, Meeks said.
