Thanks to all who made Shepherdstown’s Back Alley Garden Tour & Tea a success
A great big thank you to all whom helped make the 10thBack Alley Tour and Tea a success on so many levels. We far exceeded our financial goals. The proceeds go to maintain and restore the War Memorial Building so the funds are always needed to keep that building open for so many to use.
But we feel as a service organization that our greatest success was that so many people of Shepherdstown came out to participate, to help, and to have a good time together.
Thanks to those who bought tickets, brought their friends and families and enjoyed the event. We had lots of out of town visitors but the support of locals was most gratifying. Good to get to know your own town a whole lot better.
Thanks to the homeowners who opened their backyards to so many. The event just couldn’t happen without you! But to also give so much of your time to greet people and exchange ideas was just over the top.
Thanks to the garden docents backed up the homeowners when they wanted a break to see the other gardens or the crowds were too much. You were knowledgeable, helpful and gracious to all.
Thanks to the logistics team led by Tim Murphy. They took care of tour signage, crossing guards, and parking guides and police coordination.
Thanks to Meg Spurlin who made all the gorgeous flower arrangements for the Tea and Hall.
Thanks to the Shepherdstown Merchants who offered shopping/dining specials to Tour participants and helped to promote the event. Thanks especially to Pam Berry and her crew at the Shepherdstown Sweet Shop for selling tickets.
Thanks to the Eastern Panhandle Beekeepers Association members who provided a demonstration hive and a close up look at honey production and its role in gardening.
And a very special thank you to Elizabeth Kyle was the overall Chairman of the Back Alley Tour and Bonnie Austin organized the Tea. Amazing effort from both of them.
When the Shepherdstown Men’s Club took on the revival of the Back Alley Tour and Tea last year , Liz Kyle and I did have a vision of a wonderful celebration of the great gardens of Shepherdstown. I think are celebrating the great people as well and showing Shepherdstown at its finest. Thanks to all.
